Northwest Potters Lake Pend Orielle Sail
Hosted by Bree Reynolds
Preliminary Plans (Check back from time to time)
Note: The dates have been changed from July 26-28, as originally scheduled
A couple of pictures of the lake, and some information about the area
Friday July 12
Launch at Farragut State Park on the southern end of Pend Orielle (I'll put together directions at a later date). The park has a large parking lot, easy launch site and a fee of $3 a day. Tim, I'll be sending you some pictures you can post on the website of Pend Orielle. I've started a detailed log as well. I'll post soon. I'm actually thinking about writing a book on gunkholing on the Inland Northwest Lakes, no such publication exists to my knowledge.
There is over night moorage at Farragut in Idlewilde Bay south
east of the launch site. (A dock accomodates about 50 boats of medium size and
there is good anchorage.
Saturday July 13
Sail to Whiskey Rock or maybe Hope, ID. Hope is a lot further but if the wind is good its worth it. There is a marina and a floating resturaunt. Whiskey Rock is a forestry camp ground with a nice sheltered cove, a public dock a couple of mooring buoys and decent anchorage, especially for little Potters:) It can get crowded there, but just north of Whiskey is another public dock that someone could tie up to in a pinch.
Hope is about 12 miles from Farragut, so if there's no wind it will be a long haul.
We could all stay at Farragut on Saturday night as well. We'll probably stay out until Monday if anyone is interested. I'll be coming out of 3 weeks of intensive graduate classes and will be in need of a break. So folks interested in staying longer, let me know.
I think from Seattle it will take you about 7 hours to get to Pend Orielle. Its about 5-5 and a half hours from Seattle to Spokane (guessing towing will take longer, I usually make it in 4 and 3/4, but thats without 1,200 lbs behind the car). Pend Orielle is another 45 minutes from Spokane.
