Itinerary

Friday

The itinerary for the weekend is to put in at Boston Harbor Marina on Friday Night for those who want to arrive early, or Saturday Morning for last chance skippers.

Friday evening Boston Harbor will prepare a BBQ dinner for the group, and we will have use of their facilities and moorage for the night. I have spoken to the owners, and they will be attempting to reserve inside moorage for us so we don't have to deal with the occasional rolling wake from boats heading down into Olympia via the Budd Inlet.

Saturday

Saturday morning at 10am, the fleet will depart and roughly follow the blue route on shown on the chart. The destination for Saturday Night is Jarrell Cove, an excellent Washington State Marine park located on Harstene Island.

Skippers are welcome to travel with the pack, or take their own route and pick any number of stops in between. The tide for the first part of the journey will be opposing, so we may need to motor through the Dana Passage.

El Nino plies the Case Inlet

Those that attended the last Boston Harbor get together will remember that the passage develops a brisk current durring the flood, which is when we will be transiting. Once through the passage, we should be in for a great sail down the Case Inlet, turning up into the Pickering passage and on to Jarrell Cove. Once in Jarrell Cove, people are welcome to pick there spot where they want to moor, but I suggest the bulk of the group try to stay on the main guest dock at Jarrell Cove State Park. Click here for more information about Jarrell cove.

Sunday (Mothers Day)

Sunday's low at about 9:20am gives us a perfect opportunity to ride the flood tide up the pickering passage. Flood tides run a counterintuitive southerly course through the pickering passage, giving us a great opportunity to view this rural landscape. One of the highlights of this area is the marine park at Hope Island.

Hope Island

Those that have time will stop for lunch on Hope Island. This little gem is a pristine undeveloped marine park, and boasts some great hiking and beachcombing. On the south side of the island there are several buoys to tie off to, and a shell beach perfect for beaching a landing craft or potter. For more information on Hope Island, Click Here. After an optional stop at Hope Island, its back to Boston Harbor for loading and de-rigging the boats and the trip home.
