South Sound Sail-in 1

April 16, 17, 18 2004

We're now less than four weeks away from the "Opening Day" of NW Potterdom ! I am getting really excited, about the weekend and about the start of the NW Potter season.

The SSS1, for those who are new or have forgotten is the weekend of April 16-18 launching out of the Olympia, WA area. You can join us for 2 or 3 days.

So far we have

Mike Colyar and I (Olympia) on ToadHall with nameless
P15 and assorted other craft
Tim Spofford (Seattle) - probably
Michele Sladko (Oak Harbor) P15 SeaHorse
Randy and Diane Graves (Post Falls, ID) M15
Brennan Jones (Seattle) P15 Gypsy
Bill Thompson ( ? ) P15 Otter, Sat/Sun only
Bill +3 Velez (Olympia) P19 Day Tripper, Fri from
Swantown
Jim and Shari Sinclair (Portland) P19 Second Wind, Fri
from Swantown
Paul Howard and family (Portland) P15 Baby Beluga
Jim and Rosemary Bluhm ( ? ) P19 Ubi, from Swantown

And of course we want lots more of you to join us.

The (tentative) plan:

Fri - at a time convenient to all Friday Swantowners, ToadHall (40
ft cruis-a-home) will leave port (Fiddlehead Marina) to meet the
"fleet" at Swantown and then head out to Boston Harbor where we'll
meet the late launchers. Then out to moorage at Hope Island. (If
you arrive late you may consider that Boston Harbor can be pretty
rolly. Swantown and the public dock at Percival Landing have guest moorage.)

Sat - Morning launch for weekend only folks at Boston Harbor and
out to ToadHall at Hope Island. We will have a number of day sail,
and even hiking, suggestions for Friday-arrivals. Raft to ToadHall
or anchor out for the night. Saturday evening we'll gather on ToadHall
(or beach if weather is great) for a potluck and song.

Sunday - Potluck or cook-your-own breakfast on/at ToadHall. More
day sails or around Squaxin and back to the take-out site.

I know most of you have no idea what our "mother-ship" ToadHall might look like. Therefore, because I think the list may not allow attachments, I am sending a photo to Derek in hopes he will post it on the web page about the gathering.

Maps, directions and particulars to follow later and on the website.

If you haven't been here before: Friday launchers may want to check
out the nice coffee shops and down-home eateries in downtown Olympia before you set off.
Boston Harbor marina folks are wonderful. BH has a great deck with
tables and a view. The store has lots of snacks and other provisions.

I chose the dates because of the good tides for launch and retrieval. Tide tables below.

I would love to hear from more of you. It looks like it will be a great group -- and the weather in the Sound is always perfect that time of year ;-) Of course, if the weather isn't perfect, that's the whole reason for bringing ToadHall along - toasty comfort.

If you think you will be joining us please let me know. If you have more details about your arrival/launch plans, please let me also know as soon as they develop. I will be out of town (ie. away from my email) for the next week, so will reply when I get back.

Can't wait to see you all out on the water again -
